From a Humboldt State University news release:

Del Norte County – North Coast Senator Mike McGuire, College of the Redwoods President Keith Flamer, Humboldt State University President Tom Jackson and Sutter Coast Hospital CEO Mitch Hanna, among others, will gather this Saturday to provide a critical update on a comprehensive expansion of nursing programs here on the North Coast.

The North Coast has a severe nursing shortage and these programs will help build local career opportunities with family sustaining wages and keep quality healthcare close to home in rural Northern California.

The event will celebrate the launch of the College of the Redwoods’ LVN to RN program, which kicked off its first classes four weeks ago on the Crescent City campus. These highly anticipated courses have been in the works for a decade now and the program will send highly qualified nurses into the Humboldt State Bachelors of Science in Nursing Program and prepare residents for family sustaining careers in local hospitals and health centers.

There will also be an important update about investments in the RN to BSN nursing program at Humboldt State University, which is set to launch this fall.

Saturday’s press conference will take place at the College of the Redwoods Campus in Crescent City.
