The sheriff’s office has yet to release the identity of the victim.

“Investigators are still on scene today doing follow up,” Samantha Karges, the sheriff’s office spokesperson, wrote in an email. “We will likely be releasing an update with more information sometime tomorrow.”

On Sunday night, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received information about a possible homicide that took place on Crooked Prairie Road in the Ettersburg area, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

After the sheriff’s office received the call about the possible homicide Sunday night, the agency obtained a search warrant for Tanner’s property and “discovered evidence indicating a homicide had occurred,” the release states.

The warrant was served using a SWAT team because Tanner was believed to be armed and dangerous, according to the release. They didn’t find him at the Ettersburg area home and searched for Tanner throughout the day until he was discovered around 7:15 p.m. at the Briceland Road residence, the release states.

Tanner’s past doesn’t include any serious crimes, according to court records. He previously had a few traffic tickets, a child custody case, pleaded guilty to marijuana possession a couple of times. He had one charge related to possessing undersized abalone, which is against state law because all abalone, except red, are protected.

Tanner is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, District Attorney Maggie Fleming wrote in an email.

Tanner is being held without bail.
