Darienne Kartes scored 17 points and the College of the Redwood’s women’s basketball team defeated Feather River 76-59 Friday night in Quincy.

The win counts as the fifth-straight for Redwoods (14-3, 2-0). Feather River (11-8, 2-1) entered the game ranked No. 11 in the NorCal region. Redwoods was ranked No. 14. It was the second time in less than a week Redwoods faced a conference foe ranked ahead of it in the weekly California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll. On Saturday Redwoods defeated Butte, the No. 7 ranked team in NorCal and the No. 18 ranked team in the state.

And on Saturday Redwoods will face Lassen (15-4, 0-1), the No. 13 ranked NorCal team and the No. 20 team in the state.

Redwoods head coach Jain Tuey said her team can put the rest of the conference on notice with another upset win, this time at the expense of Lassen.

“I think another win over a conference team ranked ahead of us would solidify that we are the team to beat in the GVC,” Tuey said. “Lassen will be a tough game but our girls are playing very well and they will show up, no matter what gym we walk into.”

Dennise Horton scored 15 points in Friday’s win while Ashley Quigley added 14 and Breesia Northern, 13.
