The holiday spirit will light up Trinidad on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with “Holidays in Trinidad,” a day-long event featuring two crafts fairs.

Events are planned at 11 Trinidad businesses and eateries, along with free hot chocolate and cookies with Santa, a Christmas photo with your youngsters in Santa’s Studio and a bit of traditional caroling all through the town. You can also listen to a chorus from Jean Bazemore’s Northcoast Preparatory Academy as they perform around town, or sing along with Laura Rose at 5 p.m. at the Trinidad Art Gallery, lyrics provided. Carolers from the Northcoast Preparatory Academy will perform around town and at 11 a.m. at Murphy’s Market, Santa will arrive at in his rolling fishing boat

“In addition to the reason for the season, this festivity is due to the dedication of the Trinidad Civic Club members who are determined to raise the daunting funds it will take to give the iconic Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse a permanent home at a new seaside location.” Rose said.

The Trinidad Lighthouse stood for many years as a well-loved symbol of Trinidad and a memorial for all those lost or buried at sea. Unfortunate erosion of the cliffs has necessitated its removal down to a place near the pier.

“The Civic Club is in the planning stages of designing its restoration and engineering a new site for it in the harbor area. Visitors who decide to shop or dine in town during ‘Holidays in Trinidad’ will be contributing to this project through the generosity of eleven local businesses who will share a portion of the day’s income to this worthy cause,” Rose said.
