OROVILLE — Detectives with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, along with personnel from various other jurisdictions, arrested a man Sunday who was one of British Columbia, Canada’s most wanted fugitives.

Brandon Teixeira, 28, of Canada was arrested and handed over to the U.S. Marshals after receiving medical clearance. He had a warrant out for his arrest in Canada for homicide.

An investigation began in November with a search warrant obtained Saturday at a residence on the 100 block of Weedy Way in Oroville. On Sunday, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals, the Chico Police Department and the Tehama County SWAT teams served the warrant.

Teixeira and a man identified as Jeff Guerrier, 30, of New York attempted to leave the residence, said a press release issued Monday by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. According to the release, Teixeira rammed one of the armored vehicles with his own vehicle when trying to evade law enforcement.

After a second armored vehicle halted Teixeira’s vehicle, he got out and tried to run away. A police K-9 was deployed to stop Teixeira, and he was taken into custody.

Guerrier, the second man at the residence, was arrested on suspicion of harboring and concealing a wanted felon, possession of heroin for sale and possession of pot for sale.

Deputies say they found 26 pounds of heroin, over 1,000 OxyContin and Percocet pills, and an estimated 40 pounds of marijuana.
