H-DNL football roundup: Hoopa Valley gets first win, Del Norte takes first loss


Hoopa Valley (1-2) 14 Trinity—Weaverville (0-3) 12

Hoopa Valley claimed its first win of the season Friday night, outlasted Trinity 14-12 on the road in Weaverville. Tristin Campbell threw two touchdown passes, one to Carlos Aguilar and the other, to Jasper Hostler. Campbell also rushed for what would be the deciding 2-point conversion.

Pergish Montgomery had an interception the endzone for Hoopa to seal the win.

Mazamna—Klamath Falls, Or. (3-0) 21 Del Norte (4-1) 14

Del Norte suffered its first lost of the season Friday night by a 21-14 margin on the road at Mazama.

Del Norte led 14-7 midway through the third quarter thanks to rushing touchdowns by Kobe Mitchell and Giovanni Gonzalez. Mazama, however, had the final say as it scored twice within the final four minutes of the third frame to remain unbeaten on the year.

Tomorrow’s games

St. Bernard’s will hit the road for a game against Ferndale today while South Fork will travel to Ross for a match up with Branson.

On byes

McKinleyville (1-3) and Fortuna (1-3) have scheduled byes this week. McKinleyville will begin Little 4 Conference play on Sept. 27 on the road at Hoopa Valley. Fortuna will get back into action on Sept. 27 on the road at Del Norte for a non-conference game.
