Men’s soccer returns
Men’s soccer (0-1-1) opened its season Thursday with a 4-2 loss on the road at Mendocino. On Friday Redwoods fought to a 2-2 tie against Chabot. Redwoods will stay on the road for its next two games, at Cabrillo and at Football, before playing its home opener on Sept. 13 against Contra Costa.
Women’s soccer wins opener
Amy Reyes scored two goals in the women’s soccer opener against Napa Valley, Friday at CR.
Reyes was the leading goal scorer for Redwoods in the 5-0 win. Jaycee Morias, Makayla McKnight and Alyza Zauala-Godou each produced one goal for Redwoods in the win.
Beat The Heat
CR’s cross country team kicked off its 2019 season with the Beat The Heat meet Saturday at CR.
The men’s team was lead by Kaleb Trificante, who finished the 4-mile event in seventh-place with a time of 22:49.15. Josh Hunt also cracked the top-15 with a time of 25:14.11, good enough for 15th.
Hailey Hopkins led the Redwoods women with a 15th-place finish and a time of 27:33.71 in the 5K event.
Football — Home venue update
College of the Redwoods football will play four of its five home games this season at Humboldt State University’s Redwood Bowl, the college announced earlier this week.
Redwoods will play its home opener on Sept. 14 against Gavilan on its home field at Community Stadium. Its other four home games, on Oct. 5, 12, 26 and Nov. 16, will be played at the Redwood Bowl.
