Dawson Bacho hit a 2-run home run to put the Humboldt Crabs ahead for good in what was a 5-4 win over the visiting West Coast Kings, Friday night at the Arcata Ball Park.

Bacho gave the Crabs the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bacho did his best Kyle Knell impression from Wednesday’s win over the Redding Ringtails and sent a home run over the left field wall and onto the 101 — which at this point should have some sort of signage warning drivers of a Crabs lineup prone to launching projectiles onto the highway.

Bacho’s home run scored Cleary as well, who had made his way on base via a lead-off single to start the inning.

Before Bacho gave the Crabs the lead for good, the home team had to battle back from an early-game deficit.

The Kings scored twice in the top of the second off a pair of RBI singles from Justin Clark and Mike Winaker to jump ahead 2-0.

The Crabs responded with a three-run effort in the bottom of the frame. Knell scored two on a triple to left field and later scored on a Carter Booth ground out to put the home team ahead 3-2.

Josh Mollerus (4-2) made his eighth start of the season Friday night. Mollerus commanded four innings for the Crabs and gave up two earned runs on four hits while striking out seven in the win, his fourth straight as a starter. Wyatt Tucker came on in relief of Mollerus in the top of the fifth and spent three innings on the bump, giving up as many runs as Mollerus on half the hits.

Daniel Carrizosa made his third appearance of the season at pitcher in the eighth inning. He made quick work of the Kings in the frame, striking out the first three batters he faced. He nearly struck out the side in the ninth as well, finishing off the ball game with back-to-back strikeouts en route to the save.

Game notes

Knell, Bacho, Cleary and Jalen Smith each had two hits for the Crabs in the win. Knell and Bacho each led the Crabs in RBIs (2) as well.

Clark led the Kings in hits with two. Ryan Fleming started at pitcher for the Kings and went four innings during which he surrendered three runs on six hits.
