Former Eureka High and College of the Redwoods pitcher Luis Pimentel signed a letter of intent to join the New Mexico Highlands University baseball team, Tuesday morning during a press conference at CR.

Pimentel, a 2016 Eureka High graduate, played two seasons at College of the Redwoods. During the team’s 2019 campaign Pimentel pitched nearly twice the innings, 78.1, of the next-closest Redwoods player and carried the club’s second-lowest ERA (5.29) of pitchers with 11-or-more innings.

“It felt very good to officially sign,” Pimentel said. “To have my dad there meant a lot. I always dreamed about playing higher division baseball. I’m grateful to have the opportunity.”

Pimentel is currently in the midst of his second summer playing for the Humboldt B52s. In 2019 Pimentel is 1-1 after five starts for the B52s and is among the club’s most frequently used pitchers.

He will join a Highlands team coming off a 19-31 season. The club is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
