The Bombers can always count on Old Reliable coming through.

Jeff Giacomini’s base-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh plated a trio of runs for a much-needed cushion tonight as the Humboldt B52s took the rubber match against the Humboldt Eagles 11-5.

The victory gives the Bombers the overall summer series between the two local teams via 3-2 margin.

Giacomini — a veteran and original co-founding member — sports the team’s namesake No. 52 and smacked a first-pitch two-out double to center sending all three runners on base home against the determined Eagles. The Bombers led 8-5 before Giacomini’s ribbies.

Paced by starter Keegan Beebe (eight strikeouts to three walks) the Bombers pitching staff fanned a total of 16 Eagles. The defense limited the visitors offense to a pair of runs in the second and a trio in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

Cameron Saso (1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs), Gannon Cyphers (1-4, RBI) and Cody Emmons (1-5 with a double) powered the Eagles offense.

The Bombers initially broke open the game with a five-run bottom of the third.

Eric Smelko (3-5, RBI), Cody Banks (2-3, RBI), Brian Orr (1-2, 2 RBI), Braeden Holliday (2-4) all hit well for the B52s while Tommy Gale, Cole Harper and Matt Mascio added to the ribbie party with one apiece.

Up next for the Bombers is a weekend series against the Ukiah Hawks at Bomber Field. The Hawks were smacked around by the Humboldt Crabs this past weekend.

The Eagles, meanwhile, head to the Arcata Ball Park for an anticipated Tuesday night clash with the Crabs. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
