Barrie Love is showing original artwork in Gallery 1 at the Redwood Art Association through July 19.

Love grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Humboldt County in 2000. As a child and teenager, she traveled to Europe with her family and was able to visit many of the great art museums.

She found herself inspired by surrealism, though one of her favorite artist was Gustav Klimt.

After taking art and photography classes in college, she started painting with oils on photographs. This was a classic technique in the early days of black and white photography. But as of recently, the technique of acrylic on canvas photographs just evolved naturally. She says it has brought great joy, insight and creativity to her work.

Gallery 1 is one of the smaller galleries available for rent to artists and members to show their creative work in a professional gallery. The RAA Gallery is located at 603 F St. in Eureka. For more information, go to
