Mission lunch

Eureka: The Eureka Rescue Mission Auxiliary luncheon will be held Monday at Calvary Chapel, 1300 California St. The speaker will be Nathan Mrotzek and music will be announced. The women’s shelter is in need of disposable razors, size 4-6 diapers and baby wipes, as well as plastic bags for the thrift store. All that jazz

Arcata: Award-winning New York City jazz pianist Ben Rosenblum will perform an intimate concert for Crib Concerts on Monday. This is part of a 15-stop West Coast tour. This evening will feature Rosenblum’s regular touring drummer Ben Zweig, along with special guest Seattle-based bassist Greg Feingold. Since the release of his debut trio album, “Instead,” Rosenblum has toured with his trio throughout the United States and internationally in Canada and Japan. He was a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall’s Stern-Perelman Auditorium and has appeared at venues throughout the world, including at the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Ravinia, Himawari-No-Sato Concert Hall in Yokohama and the Library of Congress. His second album, “River City,” was released last year. Tickets range from $10 to $25 via suggested donation. Friendship Circle

Eureka: The Friendship Circle dance takes place every Tuesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Humboldt Grange Hall, 5845 Humboldt Hill Road. Admission is $5. Coffee and snacks are provided (you can bring your own drinks). Everyone is welcome. Live music will be provided.

Orchid meeting

Eureka: The Humboldt Orchid Society will meet Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Adorni Center, 1011 Waterfront Drive. Everyone is welcome, and no orchid growing experience is necessary. Bring in healthy plants for “show and tell” or a sick one for expert growing advice. Growers of bromeliads and carnivorous plants are welcome also. A free raffle is held at each meeting. Pints benefit

Blue Lake: A Pints for Nonprofits benefit for Humboldt Homebrewers will be held Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mad River Brewing, 195 Taylor Way. Humboldt Homebrewers is a DreamMaker Project of the Ink People Center for the Arts. A portion of every pint sold Wednesday will support this nonprofit organization.

Park dedication

Fortuna: Dennis Wendt and Roger Harwood will be honored for their many contributions to the Eel River Valley community on June 24 at 5 p.m. at Newburg Park. Wetlands tour

Arcata: Friends of the Arcata Marsh will host a free tour of wetlands restoration and plants June 25 at 2 p.m. at the Arcata Marsh. Mary Ann Madej and/or John DeMartini will lead this slower-paced tour. This tour only will happen if at least one phone reservation is received. Call the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center at 707-826-2359 if you plan to attend. The tour meets at the first parking lot on South I Street in from Samoa Boulevard.

On hoarding

Eureka: The Northcoast Hoarding Task Force will hold its quarterly meeting on July 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Area 1 Agency on Aging office, 434 Seventh St. Anyone who addresses this issue in their professional or personal lives is invited to attend. Participants will network, brainstorm community resources that can help and watch a training video, “Hoarding and Harm Reduction.” If you would like to be part of this task force, but cannot attend the meeting, call 707-442-3763 or email mkraft@a1aa.org to be notified of future meetings.

Car show

McKinleyville: VW owners and spectators are invited to the Humbugs VW Car Club “Cooling it in the Redwoods Car Show and BBQ” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug 3 at Pierson Park. Attendance is free for spectators, who will be able to vote for the People’s Choice award. Anyone can enter their 1991 or older VW (in any condition) for $25, which includes the barbecue and optional Humbugs membership. Members are eligible for a “Member’s Only Drawing” prize from Blue Lake Casino worth $280. This family fun event will features VWs from several Western states. There will be a raffle as well. Humbugs, a nonprofit organization contributes to local charitable groups. For more information, email humbugsvwclub@gmail.com.
