The Eureka chapter of the American Rhododendron Society held a mini-show at its May meeting focusing on later-blooming rhodies. Categories included color, certain horticultural nomenclature, fragrance and an azalea category. Pictured from left are Paula and Richard Grabowski, showing their winners, including “Black Magic” (red category) and “Pomegranate Splash” (Best of Show); and Dennis McKiver, holding winners “Mrs. Helen Jackson” (white category), R. lindlyi (Lepidote species category) and R. decorum (Elepidote species category). Don Wallace, second from right, won the fragrance category with “Scented Sunrise,” the yellow/orange category with “Sungold” and the azalea category with “Humboldt Picotee.” John Winding, right, won blue ribbons for his “Red Eye” and “Pink Walloper.” This event and a garden tour ended the rhody group’s 2018-19 year. The group’s next year begins with the Sept. 24 meeting. For more information, call 707-443-1291.
