The following is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force:

On May 21st, 2019, at approximately 4:35 p.m., Special Agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF), with the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol, conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Elk River Road and Herrick Avenue, Eureka.  HCDTF had previously obtained a search warrant for a vehicle that was being driven by Nathan Kohler Toews (age 41 from Eureka). The vehicle was also occupied by Jennifer Louise Burr (age 37 from Eureka). During their multi-week investigation, agents received information that Burr is involved in the illegal sales of prescription narcotics.

During a search of the vehicle agents located nearly an ounce of suspected cocaine, digital scales, packaging material, two firearms, and dozens of illegally possessed pills.  Agents then served a search warrant at Burr’s residence which is located in the 6600 block of 3rd Street, Fields Landing. Inside Burr’s residence agents located thousands of pills, hundreds of hypodermic needles, and multiple firearms. Agents also contacted a juvenile at this location and released him to the custody of Child Welfare Services for his safety.

Burr and Toews were subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession of controlled substances for sales and weapons violations. Due to Toews current medical condition, he was released from the jail and his involvement in this investigation will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 707-268-2539.
