The Humboldt Bay and Eureka Model Railroad Club will hold its spring open house Saturday and Sunday. This will coincide with Donkey Days at Fort Humboldt.

The clubhouse — located at Seventh and A streets above Davidson Bros Lock and Safe — will be open both days from noon to 5 p.m. There is a $3 donation for adults to attend. Children 10 and under are free.

The club has been in the same location for over four decades. Each year, members change and add scenes in each of the two divisions … mountain and canyon. Most of the focus this year has been on removing the town of Hucksberg and replacing it with a dual-gauge scene reminiscent of Alamosa, Colorado.

Members Marcus Brown and Dave Goodman, both of Arcata, have taken the lead on this project. Brown is in the process of developing the track plan. Visitors will be able to see their work in progress. It’s expected that a Denver and Rio Grande Western narrow-gauge train will be operating during the open house.

There will also be lots of model railroad items for sale. In addition, member Doug Dickson will be present to provide his expertise in evaluation and appraisal of toy trains (Lionel, Marx, etc.).
