Meditations set

Arcata: Every Thursday, Ewam Kusum Ling’s evening meditation is open to the public from 6 to 6:50 p.m. at Arcata Veterans Hall, 1425 J St. Anyone seeking to learn about meditation, or who has a meditation practice, is welcome. Brief instruction is available for those who wish to receive it. Doors open 5:45 p.m.

Movie night

Eureka: A Movie Night takes place the last Friday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Bethel Church, 2734 Hubbard Lane. Moms and dads can take the night off while children ages 4 to 18 watch a movie on the church’s Eureka campus. Popcorn, drinks and treats are provided. Bodhisattva path

Arcata: The Ancient Forest Sangha of Humboldt Bay invites everyone to a day of mindfulness in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh on May 4. The day will include sitting and walking meditation, deep relaxation and times of silence and sharing. Dharma teacher Alexa Singer-Telles will explore the four bodhisattva virtues:  giving, kind speech, beneficial action and cooperation. The retreat will be held at the Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 24 Fellowship Way, Arcata, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Plan to arrive by 9:45 a.m. to settle in.
