Can Mr. Tyree substantiate the quote in the third paragraph of his column (“Cash is king? The guillotine comes!”, Times-Standard, March 14, Page A4)? Are opinion pieces posing as satire allowed to invent anonymous quotes? Is that good journalistic practice?But the bigger ugliness is Mr. Tyree’s juxtaposition of Harriet Tubman and spirituals. Sorry, but you can’t neutralize racist imagery with preemptive counterclaims of racism — if that sentence made any sense at all.
Running this piece on the same day as your piece on the Lawson murder investigation was particularly clueless. Get with it, Times-Standard.
