I have noticed more and more big dogs, often referred to as guardian dogs showing up at shelters or being offered for rehoming online lately. In nearly all the ads the dogs’ current owners state that they had to relocate from a large rural property to the city and cannot either keep a dog at their new abodes or feel the dogs are too big for their new confines or even just eat too much. I believe that many, if not most, of these dogs were protecting mom and pop marijuana grows and now that the government has enacted laws to make it too expensive to become a legal cannabis farm and has so zealously followed through with their eradication, these poor loyal animals are homeless and unloved and worst of all for a working dog, unemployed. I read in a publication just a few days ago, that I unfortunately relegated to my wood stove, that a local branch of government had stated that they wanted to do something to give back to the marijuana industry some of their windfall in taxes, and I propose investing a little money to save these one-time pets. I have no clue how to do it personally, but there are plenty of folks smarter than I am who could find a way to keep these huge, faithful Americans out of cages.
