‘Jet Ski with a red stripe’ found unmanned in Humboldt Bay this morning, search underway

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The U.S. Coast Guard reported finding an unmanned personal watercraft in Humboldt Bay this morning, according to a spokesperson at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

“The U.S. Coast Guard said they found a Jet Ski with a red stripe,” said Samantha Karges of the sheriff’s office.

She said the sheriff’s office is assisting the Coast Guard in a search of the area. Karges said a helicopter was launched.

“We have launched our boat in the Bay,” she said.

The call originally came in at 9 a.m. As of around 10:30 a.m., the search was continuing, Karges said.

“We still have two deputies out there,” she said.

The sheriff’s office did do a DMV search on the registration of the watercraft, but Karges did not have information on the owner this morning.
