Chance Olsen shot an 82 to lead all golfers and the Eureka High boys’ golf team took round one of the 2019 season, beating out the field in Wednesday’s season-opener at Beau Pre Golf Club in McKinleyville.

Olsen led a Eureka team which combined for a team-low of 349, 30 strokes better than second-place McKinelyville (379). Arcata, third-place finishers on Wednesday, were not far behind with a team score of 380. Fourth-place St. Bernard’s (420), fifth-place Fortuna (435), sixth-place Hoopa (453) and seventh-place South Fork (472) rounded out the field of seven teams.

Individually, Arcata’s Jack Baca finished second behind Olsen after putting together an 83-stroke day. Third place went to Eureka’s Garrett McKenzie (87) and fourth, to Eureka’s Hunter Blevins. Three players tied for fifth place as Eureka’s Colton Tracy, McKinelyville’s AJ Stubbs and St. Bernard’s Connor Petrusha all finished their days with 92 strokes.

Garrett Fuller was the top golfer for Fortuna on the day with a team-best score of 103 while Hoopa was led by Bobby Campbell (96) and South Fork, by Aiden Wilner (110).

The boys will return to Beau Pre on March 21 for round two.
