Wayne Hooper will receive his 50-year Golden Veterans award at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Humboldt Masonic Lodge, 517 G St., Eureka.

Hooper was born and raised in North Carolina. After his discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1956, he moved to Everett, Washington, then to Eureka in 1957 to work in the timber industry. In 1959, he started Hooper Trucking. When he retired in 2009, he had 10 trucks. One of his sonsstill runs the business. Hooper has seven children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
