Press release from the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office:
Kayla Brown, 25, of Hoopa pled guilty to two felonies in court today including sexual penetration of a minor under 16 years old and contact with a minor for a sexual offense in front of Judge John Feeney.
The crimes occurred during June 2014 through January 2015 in Hoopa while the victim was in grammar school. The guilty plea will result in the defendant being required to register as a sex offender. District Attorney Maggie Fleming thanked the victim’s family for their willingness to proceed with trial.
“The resolve of the victim and her family allowed us to achieve a just result in which the defendant’s plea accurately reflects her criminal acts,” Fleming said.
Sentencing has been set for February 11, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Feeney.
