Humboldt State University President Lisa Rossbacher announced that a search for a new athletic director would begin sometime in January with a goal of making a permanent hire by May, according to an email the president sent to the campus community on Dec. 19.

The statement said that Doug Dawes, vice president of administration and finance, would chair a search committee to be formalized at some point this month with the goal of interviewing candidates in April, completing the hiring process in May and having the new appointment begin on July 1.

As of now, the search committee has not been selected nor finalized as many of the University’s faculty which will serve on the search committee have not returned from winter break.

Dawes said the university will be formally posting the position on Jan. 15, at which time a more detailed list of what HSU wants in a new athletic director will be available.

Dawes said the University will employ athletics staffing consultants to work with the search committee on finding a new athletic director.

Duncan Robins currently serves as the University’s interim athletic director, a position which he has held since June 1, 2017.
