Just in time for any last minute holiday shopping, there’s a new gift shop open on Main Street in Fortuna.

Main Street Gift Co. has been open since early December, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce was held recently to welcome the new business to the city.

Long-time Fortuna business owners Jeana and Kevin McClendon — owners of George’s Glass Inc. in Fortuna — decided to open the new business to fill the vacant 1116 Main Street location.

“We hope to be the go-to, one-stop shop for gift items in Fortuna,” Jeana McClendon said, “(and) we will also strive to be the best in customer service.”

She said they started working on the new store in September “with a lot of ambition and a lot of energy. We knew we had our work cut out for us to be open by the holidays,” she added, “and we did it!”

She said about 25 percent of the store is made up of local makers.

“We have local jewelers, photographers, sign makers, custom-painted furniture, and woodworkers,” McClendon said.

The store also carries One Blessed Acre bath and body products, and national brands including Kickee Pants, CC Beanie, Mud Pie, Blue Q and Demdaco.

“Our store is filled with candles, mugs, tea towels, beanies, scarves, wood signs, postcards, socks, glassware, lotions and body products,” McClendon said. “We also carry blankets, table-top décor, and Blue Moose Fudge as well.”

The store also has a unique greeting card wall, featuring adult humor and real verses for real-life situations.

Main Street Gift Co.’s holiday hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
