St. Bernard’s quarterback Will Omey was named the MaxPreps/USA Football West Region Player of the Week, MaxPreps announced Wednesday. The award, given to eight high school football players from across the nation every week of the season, was given to Omey after the junior’s explosive seven touchdown performance in a 49-47 road loss to San Marin last Saturday.
Omey finished Saturday’s loss with 43 carries for 260 rushing yards and five touchdowns, and 19-30 passing for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
“Will prepares himself in the off-season to be ready to compete week in and week out for us,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said. “It’s a special award to receive, Will had a spectacular season and I’m excited to get it going again next year.”
Omey, a junior who has now completed his first year as starting quarterback for St. Bernard’s, finished his 2018 season with 50 total touchdowns, including 31 through the air and 19 on the ground, and 3,684 total yards of offense, including 2271 passing yards and 1413 rushing yards.
