The latest update on Humboldt County election results will be released Friday, the county Office of Elections confirmed.

Final Election Night results, the last set of vote counts released, saw 87 of 144 precincts reporting. Kelly Sanders, the county clerk recorder, said Nov. 7 there were still more than 24,000 ballots left to be counted.

“We started scanning yesterday,” Sanders said Wednesday in an email. “I won’t know the (current) quantity left to count until after we finish our first post-election report.”

While some vote counts are wide enough in margin for campaigners to feel comfortable, certain other local races are stuck in a too-close-to-call limbo.

Measure K, the ordinance to further protect Humboldt County’s undocumented immigrants from federal authorities, has 51.56 percent of the votes in its favor. In raw ballot numbers, the margin between passing and failing is fewer than 900 votes.

The county stopped accepting vote-by-mail ballots Nov. 8. Sanders did not give a timeline for when the county will certify election results after all ballots have been counted.
