The following is a press release from the city of Eureka:

By request of the Mayor and order of the City Manager, all flags at City facilities will be flown at half- staff today in honor of James “Jim” Armstrong. Retired Sergeant Armstrong of Eureka Police Department passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 5, 2018. Jim Armstrong served the City of Eureka November 1981 thru May 5, 2011 retiring at the rank of Sergeant.

Jim was currently working for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time extra help deputy at the time of his passing and active with the Humboldt Amateur Radio Club.

Flags will remain at half-staff thru the end of the day.

The Mayor, Council, and City of Eureka staff extends our deepest condolences to the Armstrong family.
