The following is a press release from the Eureka Police Department:

The Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG) and the Eureka Police Department have executed an agreement for supplemental patrols on the Safety Corridor to improve safety and reduce collisions.

In 2002, the 101 Eureka-Arcata Safety Corridor, was designated as a double fine zone (through January 2006), as an interim solution to the multiple and continuous collisions on the highway. In 2007, the state legislature amended the California Streets and Highway Code, modifying a qualifying condition to solely consider head-on collisions, among other requirements. As a result, the Eureka-Arcata 101 Safety Corridor no longer qualifies for double fines.

Construction of an interchange at Indianola and a half signal at Airport Road is currently fully funded and scheduled to begin construction in the spring 2021. The initial term of the contract is for one year, from November 1, 2018 through October 31, 2019. The contract will be considered for renewal on an annual basis.
