College of the Redwoods’ Student Services/Administration building on the Eureka Main Campus is being dedicated to Eugene Portugal.

Portugal served as College of the Redwoods’ first president/superintendent from 1964 to 1972. He was instrumental in the development of CR’s “student focused” culture, its hiring of faculty dedicated to teaching and for the design and construction of CR’s Eureka Main Campus.

The Student Services/Administration building has added lettering on its exterior honoring Portugal and has placed a special commemorative plaque in the lobby.

A ceremony will be held Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. in CR’s Board Room on the second floor of the Dr. Eugene Portugal Student Services/Administration building. All past and current College of the Redwoods staff, faculty and students, as well as the general public are invited to attend the ceremony.
