The Del Norte boys soccer team rebounded after a slow start against the visiting Arcata Tigers to win 3-2 in overtime in the semifinal round of the Humboldt-Del Norte League tournament, Thursday night in Crescent City.
Thursday’s win advances No. 2 seeded Del Norte (11-1-3) to Saturday’s H-DNL championship game where it will face No. 1 Fortuna (18-1-2) at 2 p.m., in Fortuna. Del Norte and Fortuna fought to a 2-2 draw in their last meeting of the regular season back on Oct. 20. The tie against Del Norte was the only Big 5 Conference game that Fortuna did not win during regular season league play.
No. 3 Arcata took a 1-0 lead into halftime of Thursay’s game before a ferocious second half come back saw the Warriors take a 2-1 lead late into the game. Arcata equalized in the 80th minute after Del Norte slipped up and allowed an own-goal.
Del Norte recovered quickly and scored two minutes into the first overtime period after Elvin Ramirez found the net, sealing the victory for his Warriors.
