The 78th annual Assumption Parish Bazaar is slated for Oct. 19 and 20 at Ferndale Portuguese Hall on Ocean Avenue. The public is invited to this free family event.
Lots of games will be available starting at 7 p.m. each night for a nominal fee, as well as an array of booths, including a country store and a cake booth with cakes, cookies, pies and other goodies that is being run by Mark, Kathy and Molly Dekens. Bingo will be played as well and homemade items such as stuffed animals, lap throws, pillows, hand-embroidered pillowcases and more can be won at a fancywork booth under the guidance of MaryAnn and Dave Renner. The “Ten-Cent Booth” will have a wide variety of prizes as well.
Dinner chairperson Vanessa Huerta and her committee will serve up a spaghetti dinner with pasta, green salad, garlic bread and a beverage at 6 p.m. each night. Dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5 to 12 and free for children under age 5.
Bidding on silent auction items will be open both evenings. Saturday evening will close with the announcement of winners of special items.
Proceeds from this event will be used for maintaining and supporting the ongoing safety of the historic Assumption Church, which was built in 1896.
Booths, games and auctions remain open until 9 p.m. each night.
Chuck Foster and Charlene Furtado are the general chairs of this event, with support from 13 sub-committees.
