The Arcata girls tennis team wrapped up the Big 5 Conference championship on Saturday with an 8-1 win on the road against Fortuna.
Arcata is a perfect 11-0 on the season with one match remaining before post season play. With Saturday’s loss Fortuna falls to 5-5 in 2018.
Arcata’s No. 1 Aimee Reiner was pushed to the limit by Fortuna’s Katherine Gearhart but pulled out the win in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 7-6). Arcata’s No.2 Kendra Flint defeated Fortuna’s Emily Laursen in two sets (6-1, 6-1). Arcata’s No. 3 Syndi Sobota defeated Fortuna’s Charleese Nelson in two sets as well (6-0, 6-2) and Arcata’s No. 4 Casey Mcatasney defeated Fortuna’s Lorelei Martinez (6-1, 6-0).
Arcata’s No. 5 and 6, Simone Haggerty and Makayla Bernald, won their matches as well.
Arcata will wrap up its regular season on the road at Del Norte on Tuesday. For Fortuna, Saturday’s match was its final day of action in 2018.
