Former Daly’s employees to have reunion
PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The semi-annual gathering of past Daly’s Department Stores employees will be held at noon Oct. 18 at The Lodge, 445 Herrick Ave. in Eureka.

Lunch will be served, followed by announcements and a presentation update about the lives of participants of the group. The event is open to all former employees, and organizers encourage attendees to bring their spouses. An event for the lunch gathering has been created on Facebook by the Daly’s Department Store page.

The twice-a-year get-together was organized to connect with then-current and former employees of the locally owned department store chain. Daly’s Department Stores began in Eureka in 1895, and expanded over the years to Crescent City, Fortuna, Brookings and Fort Bragg. The stores closed in 1995. The “anchor store” stood on the corner of Fourth and G streets in downtown Eureka and occupied an entire block. Generations of Humboldt County residents worked at the store during its 100-year run.

Twice each year, former employees of the stores gather to reminisce about their experiences working at Daly’s and to share updates of the lives of the group. Some former employees in past attendance have related stories and experiences that date back to the 1930s.

A fee will be charged for the lunch, which is being catered by The Lodge’s food services. A no-host bar will also be offered for attendees. Those wishing to attend who haven’t been contacted by the phone committee are encouraged to RSVP by calling LaVera at 707-268-5537.
