Phoebe Sundberg shot a an field-low 83 as the McKinleyville High girls golf team coasted to another easy victory Tuesday afternoon at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course.
Sundberg improved on her first outing at Eureka back in early September by three strokes on Monday, winning the round by five strokes. Fellow Panther Molly Citro shot an 88 to earn a second place finish on Monday, followed by Arcata’s Avary Henry who shot a 91.
With one round left to be played Citro leads the field. Citro has amassed a combined score of 405 through the first six rounds this season, one better than Sundberg (406). Citro and Sundberg have separated themselves from the rest of the field by over 30 strokes as the next closest golfer is Henry at 437.
Citro and Sundberg will settle who walks away with the 2018 girls golf crown next Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Beau Pre.
McKinleyville as a team has all but wrapped up a Big 5 Conference title as it leads second place Arcata by 345 strokes with just one round left to be played.
Arcata, as it has for most the season, finished second on Monday. Eureka placed third followed by Fortuna and St. Berndard’s. Because all five teams are separated by at least 100 strokes, it is likely Monday’s results will also be the order of the Big 5 come the end of the season next Tuesday.
