SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Mirati Therapeutics Inc. (MRTX) on Wednesday reported a loss of $27.9 million in its second quarter.

The San Diego-based company said it had a loss of 94 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 76 cents per share.

Mirati shares have more than tripled since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $59.70, rising twelvefold in the last 12 months.
