Young artists and creative youth in Southern Hujmboldt showed off their talents in the recent Thankful Turkey Contest. It was our first Annual event for the entire Times-Standard newspaper team (The Redwood Times is a Times-Standard newspaper). The contest ran from Nov. 14 through Nov.18 was the contest for the local community kids as far as Weott and Redway, to Ferndale, Fortuna and Eureka.

Each grade had a different age appropriate turkey to color and they had a set of instructions to follow: name their Thankful Turkey, write their first, last name on the bottom right corner, name of their school and a contact number, lastly, the kids were to write what they are thankful for this holiday season.

Organizer of the contest, Suzanne Tibbles said, “It was truly a blessing to see how enthusiastic the kids were, how thankful they were, and the care and time each one took to make their Turkey the best it could be.”

All in all the contest received 415 entries.

Of the winners, many were our Southern Humboldt kids. Congratulations to the following: Emalyn Wheeler (Agnes J Johnston School), Kamela Hawkins (Agnes J Johnston School), Johanna Emery (Agnes J Johnston School), Alianna Bilandzija (Casterlin Elementary), Brooke Bruebake (Whitethorn Elementary) and Daniel Fuhrman (Redway Elementary).

Congratulations to each of the winners. We thank all of the school teachers and district administrators who helped to spread the news of the contest.
