Historic Hotels of America recently announced the finalists of the 2016 Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence. Among the six nominees is Eureka-native Teresa Porter, who along with her husband John Porter, and his partner Jack Macdonald, co-own the Benbow Historic Inn.
Porter was nominated for her work documenting North Coast historic hotels for over 30 years. She is currently overseeing the interior design of the Benbow Inn’s new addition, incorporating vast amounts of historic information she has catalogued over the years. These Awards of Excellence recognize and celebrate the finest historic hotels and hoteliers across the nation and around the world.
Historic Hotels of America is an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It was founded in 1989 and recognizes 290 hotels which have maintained their authenticity, sense of place and architectural integrity.
“Historic Hotel of America congratulates all the 2016 nominees,’ said Lawrence Horwitz, HHA’s Executive Director. “The nominee finalists exemplify the finest in historic hotels, hoteliers and historians in the United States.”
The 2016 Awards will be announced November 3 at the HHA Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony and Gala at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii.
