CONCORD — John Eckstrom, a former chief executive officer of Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Inc. based in San Francisco, was named Friday as the new executive director of Shelter Inc., which helps the poor in Contra Costa County find homes, rental assistance, job training and other services.
Eckstrom, a Lafayette resident, also has worked in the private high-tech sector, taught at UC Berkeley and raised venture capital funds, according to a news release from Shelter Inc.
Eckstrom, a Lafayette resident, succeeds Tim O’Keefe, who resigned in October to become the CEO of the Golden Rain Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support services for the retirement community of Rossmoor. He had been Shelter Inc,’s top officer since 2006. Beth Schecter had been serving as interim executive director.
