Historical Society challenging Fremont Union High School District students with essay contest

The Cupertino Historical Society is holding its second annual essay contest for the History Scholarship Awards Competition on March 30.

The historical society is teaming up with the Fremont Union High School District to challenge students to write about a specific historical topic.

The essay contest is open to all juniors at all five high schools in the district and will take place in a timed environment after school.

The essay topic will be prepared by Reno DiBono, a retired Monta Vista High School history teacher, and will likely focus on the time period juniors typically study: 1880 to 1945, according to organizers.

Sign-up forms can be obtained from students’ social studies teachers at their respective schools. Sign-ups run March 4-18.

Reno will also be the lead judge of essays and will be joined by Cupertino Historical Society members, who will read all the essays and determine the winners, who will be announced in early May. Each winner will receive $250.
