Briceland Vineyards’ 2013 Alderpoint Vineyard Humboldt County Pinot Noir was awarded 94 points by Rusty Gaffney, MD in his long running newsletter, The PinotFile /www.PrinceofPinot.com. Other high scorers were the 2012 Reserve Humboldt County Pinot Noir, 92 points and 2013 Ronda’s Vineyard Humboldt Pinot Noir, 90 points. Also earning 90 points were 2014 Sprit Canyon Vineyard Mendocino Arneis and in an earlier submission, 2013 Phelps Vineyard Humboldt Pinot Noir.

Detailed descriptions of the wines are published on Rusty’s site in his recent article: princeofpinot.com/article/1771/ or the article about the winery @: princeofpinot.com/winery/366/ which contains all of the reviews that the Prince has done of Briceland wines.

Alderpoint Vineyard was planted in 1991 in consultation with Briceland’s founding winemaker, Joe Collins. Briceland made wine from the vineyard for several years as the vineyard came into production and then production was passed on to other wineries. More recently, vineyard owner Rainbo Boyd along with Sonoma viticultural expert Rey Sanchez refocused on fine tuning the farming of the site. Since 2013, the fruit from the vineyard has been vinted by local producer Briceland Vineyards and by Joseph Jewel Wines of Windsor.

Rusty Gaffney’s PinotFile is the first wine review site focused on a single varietal. Mr Gaffney, a retired MD, has published the monthly newsletter since 2002, tasting and writing about thousands of Pinot Noirs over the last 13 years. Since 2011 Briceland has submitted dozens of wines for review and has earned numerous spots on Rusty’s year end All American lists.

Briceland Vineyards was founded in 1985 as the first commercial winery in Southern Humboldt. The winery is widely credited with establishing commercial wine-growing in the area and helping to pioneer grape growing in what is now considered an up and coming Pinot Noir region. Each year Briceland Vineyards holds 2 two-day tasting events at the winery during Memorial Day and Thanksgiving weekends as a way to thank loyal fans and share the fun with new friends. Tastings are available by appointment year around, and the winery offers regular tasting hours over the summer.

Briceland’s wines are available in stores and at fine restaurants throughout Humboldt County, direct from the winery and can be shipped. For more information, to arrange a tour, case purchases, or to ship your order, contact the winery at 707-923-2429 or email andrew@bricelandvineyards.com.
