PITTSBURG — A motorcyclist suffered major injuries when he crashed on a highway Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and the rider of the motorcycle en route to a hospital after the 6:22 a.m. crash on westbound Highway 4, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said. The crash, which involved another car and happened just east of the Bailey Road exit, blocked the two left lanes and caused the CHP to issue a severe traffic alert.

It was not known immediately how long the alert would be in effect. It did not appear there were any other injuries, Simmons said.
