Guns found, dozen cited after San Francisco party bus stops at East Bay Safeway

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

ANTIOCH — Officers found five loaded guns on a party bus that traveled from San Francisco to Antioch on Saturday and arrested a dozen people for causing havoc inside a grocery store, police said Monday.

The party bus stopped in the parking lot of a Safeway on Deer Valley Road, and police were called around 11:40 p.m. after reports that some of the riders were inside the store causing mayhem, Antioch police Sgt. Tom Fuhrmann said.

“They were knocking stuff over, throwing things around the store,” Fuhrmann said. “A couple of them tried to grab-and-dash.”

Eleven people were cited for petty theft in an incident that took a couple of hours to sort out. Police also found five loaded guns inside the bus, Fuhrmann said. Police did not say to whom they belonged, and nobody was arrested for possessing one.

“Apparently, when the ones inside the store came out, the bus driver got wind of what was happening and locked them out of the bus,” Fuhrmann said. “It took a long time for the officers on the scene to sort it out.”

Police have not said why a party bus was traveling from San Francisco to Antioch.

“It”s sort of the reverse thing,” Fuhrmann said. “People usually go from Antioch to San Francisco to party.”

Police did not identify immediately the people they arrested.
