Thousands of empty butane bottles were found at the site of a suspected has lab in the Rancho Sequoia area near Alderpoint. Multiple explosions were heard in the area and the building was a total loss. A U-Haul trailer was also found near the scene full of cases of unused butane bottles.

An explosion and fire were reported at around 11:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 14. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call of a fire in the area of Rancho Road and Spring St. in the Rancho Sequoia area of Alderpoint. There were reportedly explosions heard in the area of the fire. Cal Fire and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and determined that the fire had destroyed a small outbuilding and were related to a hash extraction lab.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded and discovered evidence that concentrated cannabis or “hash” was being produced using a butane extraction method. There were thousands of empty butane canister found discarded on the property along with remnants of marijuana. Three firearms were located on scene and collected. Witnesses stated that a green Jeep SUV was seen leaving the property at a high rate of speed once the explosions began. The landowner has been contacted. There are no known suspects at this time. This investigation is ongoing.
