Redwoods Rural Health Center (RRHC) invites you to the last in the series of cooking classes facilitated by Gina Paine, NE, LE. The cooking class will be held on Monday, March 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Healy Center in Redway. The class will learn to make a delicious soup and salad.
We all know that we like food to taste good and these are easy nutritious recipes that anyone can do, so please come watch and taste. While you are enjoying samples from the kitchen, Paine will lead a nutrition lesson to help everyone understand label reading and how to shop better.
Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right is the theme for National Nutrition Month – March 2014. They would like you to think about a couple of food rules. First, if you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it! Second, if it wasn’t food 100 years ago, it is not food now. Look at the foods you are consuming daily and see how it fits with these two rules.
It is essential to invest in healthy food now, or pay for it later in the form of medical bills for chronic disease. Remember that nutrition is a slow change. If you would like it to become habit, be patient and keep moving forward.
This event is brought to you through funding from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services – CalFresh Program. The CalFresh Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. The CalFresh Program helps to improve the health and wellbeing of qualified households and individuals by providing them a means to meet their nutritional needs. For more information about eligibility requirements, visit http://www.calfresh.ca.gov/.
RRHC’s patient services assistors can also guide community members through the application process. To schedule an appointment or to RSVP for the cooking class, call 923-2783.
