WOODLAND — The Chicoan killed in an accident Tuesday morning near Woodland has been identified.
Darren Fung, 24, of Chico, was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon southbound on Interstate 5, south of Highway 16, when he veered to the left for unknown reasons and hit the center median, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Fung then overcorrected to the right, which made him lose control of the vehicle. The Dodge then crossed the southbound traffic lanes, spinning in a clockwise direction, Lal explained in the accident report.
The car eventually crossed the west shoulder where the driver”s side door struck a tree.
“Due to the impact, (the driver) was ejected from and sustained fatal injuries,” Lal said.
The passenger, identified as Mickey Reeder, 27, also of Chico, sustained major injuries and was transported by ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where he is in critical condition.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected in the crash.
