WOODLAND — One person was killed and a Chicoan was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 5 near Woodland Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol officers say two men in their 20s were driving southbound near West Street around 6:31 a.m. when the driver veered and hit the center divide, overcorrected and ran into a tree on the opposite side of the road.

One of the men, from Crescent City, was partially thrown from the vehicle and died. The other man, from Chico, was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with major injuries.

It is not clear who was driving at this point.

CHP officers are still investigating what caused the Dodge Neon to crash. Officers say it”s unclear whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Traffic was not affected.
