PARADISE — Two men who may be responsible for several recent burglaries near Orland, and definitely tied to the theft Friday of a pickup and three handguns, were arrested by Paradise police Friday night.
A married couple associated with the suspects was also arrested.
Earlier Friday the two men are believed to have stolen a vehicle and firearms from a rural home in the 6000 block of County Road 23, south of Orland.
Glenn County Sheriff”s officials said that incident was the last reported among several crimes, mostly vehicle burglaries, between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, Paradise police received a report of lights being on and music coming from a home in the 1400 block of Bille Road whose owner was thought to be out of town.
Officers reportedly located the truck on arrival and found it had been stolen.
Paradise police, assisted by the Butte County Sheriff”s Office, surrounded the home, and were later joined by Chico police, including a K-9 team and a Special Response Team.
The owner of the residence arrived, and said his wife should be the only one inside the home.
Police ordered the occupants out of the residence, using a bullhorn.
The woman emerged, but not the men.
After several attempts to coax them outside, which included phone calls placed by a negotiator, gas was shot into the home, and the two men came out and surrendered.
Arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and violation of probation were Brandon Dawson, 18, and Billy Duncan, 18, both of Chico.
Zachary and Samantha Kelso, both 25, were arrested on suspicion of committing parole violations.
Items stolen in some of the burglaries were reportedly found at the Bille Road home.
Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said burglaries and thefts from unlocked cars continued over the weekend in an area west of Orland.
He said investigators probing those crimes may focus on looking for associates of the two Chico men arrested in the incident Friday.
