I believe in the power of a handwritten letter to our state senator and state assemblymen. Therefore, I am asking every citizen who is interested in keeping Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park open to appeal to Sen. Doug LaMalfa and Assemblymen Dan Logue and Jim Nielsen, State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Point out that more than 35,000 people visit the park each year, many as tourists who eat at local restaurants and stay in hotels and motels, thus bolstering Chico”s economy. Bidwell Mansion is a fully furnished house museum honoring pioneer, statesman, agriculturist, philanthropist and Chico founder John Bidwell. If Bidwell Mansion and Visitor Center are closed, it will involve transportation of priceless artifacts from 1868 at great cost and risk to a climatized storage facility.

Please think of the thousands of third-graders who learn about California”s history with hands-on learning through educated and dedicated staff. Urge them to reconsider the closure of Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park.
