CHICO — If someone”s late into the office, a planned power outage today could be the reason.

An outage, planned for last week that was canceled due to hot weather, took place this morning.

PG&E said about 4,000 customers in Magalia, Stirling City, Butte Meadows and Forest Ranch were without power from 3:12-3:50 a.m.

Customers were notified by mail about the outage.

The outage was to replace a circuit breaker at the Centerville Substation so a transmission line could be placed back in service.

A second planned outage will be scheduled during cooler fall temperatures to install animal guards at the Oro Fino Substation in Magalia to prevent rodents and birds from disrupting power.

Also during that outage, 10 wooden transmission poles in Butte Creek Canyon will be replaced using helicopters. Before then, PG&E will reinforce the poles, which will not require power to be turned off.
