CHICO — Church on the Esplanade will wash cars 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to benefit the church vacation Bible school program in July.

A bake sale by members of the church”s “SuperMoms” ministry will also be held at the car wash.

Events will be in the church parking lot, 1119 The Esplanade.

CHICO —David Carroll, who presents the work and vision of the international ministry of Gospel for Asia to churches in America, will speak at all Calvary Chapel services this weekend.

Carroll challenges church communities to become radically involved in winning Asia to Christ.

Times are 6 tonight and 8, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday at 1888 Springfield Drive.

Nursery through high school ministries will be offered during all of the services.

CHICO — The True Woman Summer DVD Series for Women is at the Evangelical Free Church and preregistration for child care is required by Wednesday.

Sessions are Wednesdays from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. through Aug. 17 at the church, 1193 Filbert Ave.

CHICO —Independence Day for South Sudan, Africa, is scheduled for July 9, and with the fear of possible violence, some local churches and Chico Peace & Justice Center are joining in a worldwide “Season of Prayer” through July 9.

Each Friday at 8 a.m. a different church will lead a 30 to 45 minute prayer for peace. The prayer gatherings will culminate in a final community prayer for peace and self-determination for the people of South Sudan at 9 a.m. July 9 in City Plaza.

Following is the schedule of dates and churches:

* June 17: Trinity United Methodist Church, 285 E. Fifth St.

* June 24: Chico Peace & Justice Center garden, 526 Broadway.

* July 1: Faith Lutheran Church, 667 First East Ave.

* July 8: First Christian Church, 295 E. Washington Ave.

Six years ago a comprehensive peace agreement was signed to begin the division of North and South Sudan.

Vacation Bible school starts at Trinity United

CHICO — Children, youth and adults may participate in vacation Bible school at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5 to 8 p.m. from June 20 to 24.

Themed “Shake It Up Caf?, Where Kids Carry Out God”s Recipe,” each evening will begin with a family meal and fellowship time. Bible study, music, discovery and recreation time and craft activities for all ages will follow.

Cost is $10 per person or $20 for a family of two or more, and scholarships are available.

CHICO — Rabbi Yitzhak Nates will offer a teaching during Shabbat services 7 p.m. Friday, June 24. Chico Havurah welcomes all in the community to attend this special service at the Congregational Church of Chico, 1190 E. First Ave.

An optional dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and donation is $7 for adults and $4 for ages 8 and younger. Reservations are required for dinner only.

Rabbi Nate will officiate at the Saturday morning service, June 25, during which Rachel Kligerman-Mannisto will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah.

CHICO — Aldersgate United Methodist Church is registering young people entering seventh through 12th-grades now for its Youth Summer Camp, which is open to the community.

The camp is June 26 through July 1, at the Feather Youth Camp, Camp Tehama near Mineral.

Activities will include hiking in Lassen Park, arts and crafts, archery, campfires, fun at Lake Almanor, singing, talent nights, volleyball, Bible teaching and other events.

Pastor Neal Neuenburg is camp director and he will be joined by Pastors Toni Hartman and Dave Rieck from the Durham church.

Cost is $200 for the week.
